EducationDr. Nathen Spitz completed his medical degree at the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa, where he was elected president of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society for educational achievement and leadership. He was also awarded the Leonard Tow Humanism Award through his membership in the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) for his years of devotion to running a free mental health clinic and to other compassionate, patient-centered care in clinics and the community. During his adult general psychiatry residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, he was chosen to serve as a Chief Resident of the program in recognition of his years of clinical and leadership experience and excellence, with a particular focus on enhancing the education of its residents.
AreaS of ExpertiseDr. Spitz has cared for patients across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, and young and older adults, in a variety of clinical settings. His approach to care is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. He emphasizes tailoring treatment to each person's individual experiences, strengths, and goals in life and wellness. His work includes meticulous medication management and a range of psychotherapeutic techniques and orientations, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other transference-focused methods of therapy, all with the goal of fostering recovery, resilience, and improvements in a person's quality of life. Dr. Spitz has a special interest in treating mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, and substance use concerns. He sees patients both virtually and in-person at our Upper East Side location.
